I first came up with the idea of this website, when I was told of the dismal and negative view my parents discovered when researching this topic on the internet about this topic. I figured giving people hope when it comes to a very bleak topic, isn’t really doing any harm. In summary, my goal in creating this website is to let people know that there can be and will be life after a TBI.
Life Before- Before my life was flipped upside down, I was a 17-year-old senior in high school, looking to play collegiate water polo. I had a very active social life in which many different types of people knew me for a myriad of different things. I had a very sarcastic and quick, often deadly, wit.
Life After- Currently at a smaller school in the Pacific Northwest, the University of Portland studying organizational communications. At first there were some struggles socially and academically but, through time, advice from different perspectives, and joining a colligate sport, things definitely saw a vast improvement! Overall, I did indeed lose my quick wit, because of my processing speed but consequently I am definitely more patient and understanding of the hardships others might be facing. Unfortunately however, society today determines someone’s complete intelligence according to their processing speed, which is entirely unfair but, it is something that I will continue to work on over time.
Overall, my goals in life are nothing out of the ordinary, as I would like to get married and start a family down the road. Before those things happen, I would just like to focus on being successful at whatever career path I choose, along with the seemingly simple yet somewhat rare idea of just being happy. I do not need to be the next greatest thing, I just hope to be a contributing member of society.
